Xi'an, China: The "Chang'an Lantern Festival" has Begun

On January 1st, 2026, the lighting ceremony of the"Chang'an Lantern Festival" in the Year of the Horse (Bingwu) in 2026 was grandly held at the Tang Paradise in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China. For the first time, the opening of this year's"Chang'an Lantern Festival" was advanced to New Year's Day, with two main venues established: the Tang Paradise and the Xi’an City Wall.

The Chang'an Lantern Festival at the Tang Paradise main venue will last until April 6th. Through 39 large-scale themed lantern displays in the Tang Paradise, more than 300 poems of the Tang dynasty are strung together. In addition, more than 30 intangible cultural heritage techniques,such as Suzhou embroidery, bamboo weaving, and opera headdresses are incorporated into the lantern groups.

The Chang'an Lantern Festival at the Xi'an City Wall's main venue will last until March 22nd. The lantern displays include more than 50 giant lantern groups crafted based on historical relics. The exhibition area of this lantern festival covers multiple important locations along the Xi'an City Wall.

Last but not least, during the Spring Festival, It will launch wonderful performances in the Tang Paradise such as traditional amusement shows. Every night at Ziyunlou Square, there will be a water-and-fire dance, a laser light show, and a music fountain performance.There will be a coordinated event involving 9 city gates at the venue on the Xi'an City Wall. In addition, activities such as armored parades and interactive mystery plays will also be held.

On the fifth day of the first lunar month, the two major scenic spots—Tang Paradise and Xi'an City Wall—will simultaneously launch themed parades to jointly celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival.
